Clarence Valley Joins NSW Beachwatch Program to Monitor Water Quality
Published on 11 December 2024
Twelve popular locations across the Clarence Valley have been selected to participate in the NSW Government’s Beachwatch program this summer.
Weekly water samples will be collected and tested at Corcoran Park Grafton, Iluka Bay, Maclean Jetty, Main Beach Minnie Water, Main Beach Wooli, Main Beach Yamba, Prince Street Jetty, Spooky Beach Angourie, Turners Beach Yamba, and Whiting Beach in Yamba.
Clarence Valley Council’s General Manager, Laura Black, expressed her satisfaction with the initiative, which follows extensive community consultation.
“These key locations were chosen to ensure both locals and visitors can swim with confidence.
“The consultation in September helped identify twelve priority sites for ongoing water quality monitoring.
“The Beachwatch program is designed to empower the community with reliable, up-to-date information about water quality, prioritising health and safety when deciding where and when to swim.”
Weekly testing for Enterococci bacteria allows Council to closely monitor water quality and address any potential issues promptly.
Water testing is already underway at all selected sites and will continue until February 2025.
