Lyn Best has won Clarence Valley Council's Win Your Rates Competition.

The Grafton resident was drawn at random to win $1,500 off her 2023/2024 general rates. All Clarence Valley ratepayers registered to receive eNotices were entered into the draw.

Ms Best was interstate visiting family when she received the wonderful news. She said she had spent six months saving for her trip.

"I am so grateful for this," she said. "I've been a single mum for a long time, and it's been getting harder these days, so anything like this helps a lot.

"It's just one less bill for a little while, so thank you to Clarence Valley Council."

The primary school teacher said she signed up to receive eNotices a few years ago, and pays her rates and water fortnightly via BPay.

"I make sure everything's set up so I pay a little bit each fortnight and can always be ahead," she said. "You have to when you're on a budget."

Clarence Valley Council ran the Win Your Rates Competition to encourage ratepayers to receive their rates online, to help reduce postage costs.

"The less paper sent out, the greater the operational savings for much needed services," CVC General Manager Laura Black said.

"If 50 per cent of ratepayers registered for eNotices, there would be an annual saving of more than $82,000."

Following this latest promotion, the ratepayers who receive their rates and water notices electronically has now risen to 28.45 per cent.

“Getting rates notices online is a genuine win/win for the ratepayer and community," Cr Peter Johnstone said.  "It is convenient for the ratepayer and the council doesn’t waste money on postage that can be spent in the community."
