BLER - Build Facility for the Ewingar RFS Brigade

  • Completion Date31 December 2024

What’s happening?

In 2022 Clarence Valley Council, with the support of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service, applied for, and secured $836,126 from the jointly funded Australian and New South Wales Government Bushfire Local Economic Recovery (BLER) Fund, to create a new Rural Fire Service Facility at 584 Ewingar Road, Ewingar NSW 2469.

What are the benefits?

Using Council supplied land, the funds will build a new 3 Bay Shed to house service vehicles with attached support facilities to allow for use as a refuge or point of forward command in future times of natural emergencies.

Benefits include:

  • Provision of community services
  • Reduction of future disaster risks
  • Provision of ongoing facilities for community use
  • Provide economic benefit for the area.

The current Ewingar RFS facilities are in a position that is surrounded by dense bushland, has limited access to power and water, and is reaching the end of its functional life.

Using Council land on the same open and cleared block at the existing 355 Committee leased Community Hall, the location of the new proposed site has been determined by the capacity to support the required infrastructure, and house incoming helicopters in support of the local Rural Fire Service Volunteers.

In times of emergency this site will provide a forward command post for State and Federal Government Supported Agencies in times of emergency.

Project timeline

The works are to commence in September 2024, with shed and slab construction estimated to be completed by the end of 2024. Power and pre-construction activities will continue into the first weeks in October with completion of the under-slab construction requirements.

From the third week in October 2024 to 31 December 2024, the remaining trades are scheduled to provide supporting infrastructure to the shed, this will include plumbing for sewer and addition of water tanks. Additional electrical works will utilise the newly installed connection to provide power to the site and lighting and air-conditioning additions.
